Birthdays are a great opportunity for reflection. And after 30 years in business, there's a lot to be proud of. To celebrate this milestone, we asked our people to share some of their key highlights and achievements from their journey with us so far.
"I have real moments of pride when I bring an outside person in to Charter Hall for the first time. We now have such a strong profile in the industry that people want to work with us and want to be part of our story.
"They come in and immediately you see the impression we make - the open and bright physical space we have, the energy and buzz of a team of smart people all working around you, and the amazing support and service of our concierge team - it never ceases to impress the visitors and leave me proud. It’s a great starting point from which to begin whatever negotiation lies ahead."

"My proudest moment was how we demonstrated our well-being approach during the first lockdown last year. We hosted webinars on our mindset with Chelsea Pottenger from EQ Minds, ran interactive Managing for Team Well-being sessions with our people leaders, hosted confidential Connection Rooms, coached leaders on how to lead remotely, and we extended our Employee Assistance Program to both tenant customers and our people who needed more than the initial six sessions.
"There were many outcomes to this approach - including the successful transition of two employees back into the workplace after a period of mental health leave. The two managers were both able to use what they learnt in our Managing for Team Well-being sessions to make this happen, and since returning one employee has been promoted!"

"I have so many proud moments from my time at Charter Hall. I have been in Australia for nine years and eight of those years at Charter Hall. I still remember my first day and meeting my new team. Everyone was young, vibrant and enthusiastic to grow the business. And it was, and still is, a can-do approach where you can put up your hand and grow your career.
"I was very lucky and humbled to be awarded the employee of the year in 2015. It was a very proud moment for me personally and gave me the belief and confidence to change paths in my career from a finance focused role into the more commercial role of retail leasing.
"I have always been supported by Charter Hall not just in my career but also in my personal life with additional parental leave, giving me time with my two children as my wife returned to work, and the opportunity to take a career break to return to Ireland. Charter Hall has been a family to me, a home away from home and I have been very lucky to have great supporters that have helped me along the way."

"My proudest moment is being part of the Melbourne team. When I joined Charter Hall, as part of the Macquarie funds management platform acquisition, there were only three people in the Melbourne team, today we have over 65 employees.
"I have been responsible for the leadership duties within the Melbourne office for the past six years, which has included moving the physical office three times to cater for the growth in staff numbers, including our most recent move to our flagship development at Wesley Place.
"I’m also extremely proud to have been part of a growing Office sector, from $7bn when I joined in 2010, to now over $22bn in 2021. The acquisitions (and divestments) that myself and my team have been involved in have been immense, the buzz of the workplace and getting everything done and being part of such a high performing team is so rewarding – and there’s definitely more to come!"

"Over my 18.5 years at Charter Hall, I have had many great experiences. One of my proudest moments would have to be listing the Long WALE REIT on the Australian Stock Exchange in November 2016. In 2015, David Harrison had the vision to create the Charter Hall Long WALE REIT (CLW), an ASX listed Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) focused on long leased property to high quality tenants diversified across property sectors.
"The initial portfolio for the IPO was a combination of seven separate trusts or funds from across the business. The first six months of 2016 was spent obtaining investor approvals for selling the funds, structuring of the transactions and undertaking due diligence. We were all on track to list CLW in October 2016. However, in the weeks leading up to the IPO, the US presidential elections were looming and markets were concerned what a Donald Trump victory could mean. The stock market started getting shaky and this impacted our ability to launch into a strong market. As a result, demand for the CLW IPO ended up being weaker than expected and we withdrew the float from the market.
"David Harrison and the CHC Board then had to make the decision whether to recut the IPO and relaunch or scrap the concept of an ASX listed Long WALE REIT. Fortunately, the decision was taken to restructure the raising and relaunch two weeks later. On 8 November 2016, CLW successfully listed on the ASX. And since then, has grown strongly and successfully. It's important to note that the listing of CLW was a huge team effort involving many people across the Charter Hall business. It would not have been possible without their hard work and efforts."

“Working with Charter Hall in the Retail sector has provided me with many opportunities to work closely with the communities in which we operate. A particular proud moment was back in 2015, when there were devastating floods in many parts of NSW, including the Maitland/Hunter region.
"As part of a Random Act of Kindness initiative, members of our team were given the opportunity to walk around our Centre at Rutherford Marketplace and hand out Woolworths gift cards to our shoppers. There was no PR release regarding the initiative, the goal was simply to give back to struggling members of our community and to make a difference, in any small way we could. The reaction from shoppers was truly heart-warming. I recall the genuine gratitude from one shopper, who had taken on the caring responsibilities of his niece and nephew as his brother was battling a drug addiction. He was so thankful for the gesture and commented on how it would genuinely make a big impact for their family.
"No matter how big or small, it’s these acts of kindness that Charter Hall allow us to do, that makes me proud to be part of an organisation that genuinely focusses on providing positive impacts in our communities."

"In my three years at Charter Hall I've had many proud moments. My first was when my team completed a critical upgrade of the Yardi application in 2020 without any disturbance to our business. We then received kudos from Yardi themselves, saying they haven't encountered any other company that managed and completed an upgrade as efficiently and successfully as Charter Hall. It is common to recognise team success internally, but when we are acknowledged from the outside, it's icing on the cake and shows our incredible hard work and talent.
"A second proudest moment was completing the 2020 leadership program with a terrific cohort and feeling loved by Charter Hall and IT management as they cared for employee's learning and leadership development."

"I’ve had many proud moments in my eight years with Charter Hall. The first, and the one that stays with me most, was winning the Retail Award in 2015. I had only been with Charter Hall for just over a year and since I’d started on a six-month contract I was determined to prove myself. Receiving the Retail Award put it all in perspective, I realised I was at a progressive and successful company that recognised ambition and rewarded results.
"Since then, my proudest moments have been more nuanced - I get a huge kick out of renewing or completing new deals with our tenant customers, of building lasting relationships with clients and team members, and being part of innovative developments that add value to our assets.
"Being chosen to be a part of the Charter Hall mentor program was a recent and important proud moment - it says to me that after starting on a six-month contract, finding success, putting in hard work and achieving great results, that Charter Hall will always reward the people who go further."
